We needed a lot of water!

We needed a lot of water!

The weakness that had been found in our building was focused on the walls above arches, these supported the main nave roof. The downward force of the roof had been pushing these walls outward (oh, if only I had a physics degree!!). As a result, they were unable to support scaffolding as would a normal building. The amendments to the scaffolding design, therefore, were to mitigate this effect. To hold the scaffolding in place, we would need to use these huge steel water butts as weights to support the scaffolding.

The delivery and installation were a sight to behold.

"We are going to need a lot of water!" One of the men exclaimed.

"You think?” the sarcastic reply from his colleague.

The next few days involved trying to get the really long hosepipe around - and at times through - the church.
