Quick work

There were a few thumbs twiddling on Monday morning as the lorry delivering the first batch of slates was delayed. All the prep work had been done and so patience was the name of the game. Shortly into the afternoon the lorry arrived. After working out a safe way to deliver the heavy pallets the driver took a lunch break, to the joy of the roofing team.

The pace at which the pallets were emptied was staggering. Over the course of the week a more normal - be it refreshed - look began to form from one corner of the nave roof. The pace being kept was a good one so with each blink there was more of the beautiful slate installed. It is a sight for sore eyes and a joy for anyone connected with the long story of St Stephen’s Church.
