May he rise in glory!

With great sadness, we receive the news of Fr John Asbridge's passing away.

Fr John was vicar at St Stephen's for a significant part of its post-war years, roughly 25 years. He was a well-loved man, who nurtured faith in so many. Aside from a great legacy in many hearts, Fr Asbridge set up Shepherd's Bush housing which to this day helps countless find a place to call home. He trained many a curate - including Bishop Wilfred Wood - and was a blessing to the wider church, not just our little corner of the city.

He passed away on the 24th of July at his home in Somerset.

His funeral will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday the 19th of August 2022 at St Giles Church in Leighland, Somerset.

If you are local to St Stephen’s and would like to take a moment to remember Fr Asbridge, commiting his family in prayer then come to church on Friday the 19th. We will be open between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. with the bell ringing at 1 p.m.
